Expanding my ArcArmy - 2000pts Leagues of Votann

The Leagues of Votann ArcArmy Challenge has been a wild ride so far, but it's far from over.

With Arc40k now in the rearview mirror and my 1350pt army having spent the weekend proudly on display, it's time to turn my attention to the next step in the journey - expanding my army to 2000 points. That gives me the opportunity to play in all levels of the game - plus add some of the models I purchased but couldn’t field because of the changes through Arcs of Omen detachment changes.

Plus there’s Armies on Parade at the end of the year and I think that this might be my entry for this year… But to do this, I have a few key additions need to be completed.

First up is a Land Fortress, a powerful vehicle that will add some much-needed firepower to my army. Plus it has the ability to transport more of the models in the army - getting those HearthGuard safely across the table to unleash their close range weapons will add a lot of tactical flexibility.

With its array of Bolt Cannons and potent top mount weapons like the Cyclic ion cannon, Heavy Magna-rail cannon, and SP Heavy Conversion Beamer, this behemoth is sure to make an impact on the battlefield.

Next, I'm adding an Iron Master to my ranks. This powerful character is equipped for both close combat and shooting, but it’s his abilities - like being able to repair vehicles will help keep big points units like the Land Fortress staying and playing far longer thanks to the ability to repair D3 wounds at the end of each movement phase. He'll be a force to be reckoned with!

Last but certainly not least, I'm bringing in a Grimnyr. With his pshycic abilities the Grimnar is sure to be a key asset to my army as I continue to build it up.

Plus having a guy walking on floating rocks and bringing even more IronKin to the force helps reinforce that the Nahgrim Hegemony has a higher percentage of these automatons than other leagues - at least that’s what my background says!

Of course, expanding the army to 2000 points should be a relatively y easy task. Yes, it will take a bit of time, and effort, to make sure that my new additions fit seamlessly into my existing force. I’ve had a couple of weeks off to head down to Melbourne and help DanTO stuff lanyards, organise a brand new painting competition and be a part of the historic 25 year anniversary edition Arc40k…

The display board will also need to be modified to accommodate these extra models. There are nine models to build and paint - and the Land Fortress is a significant investment in points and time to paint.

But I'm excited for the challenge and can't wait to see how my army will evolve as I continue to work on it.

One thing that I learned from the years of attending Arc40k event is that presentation is key. With so many incredible armies on display, it was the ones that were well-painted, well-themed, and well-presented that really stood out.

So, as I work on expanding my army, I'll be focusing not just on adding new units, but also on improving the overall look and feel of my force. Maybe going back and adding battle damage, blending the bases of the models to fit more seamlessly with the display board - I’ve a new airbrush I’m eager to use to put more details into the display.

As I continue to build and paint my Leagues of Votann, I'll be exploring all of these options and more to create

an army that is hopefully a something to be proud of.

So, while Arc40k may be over, the Leagues of Votann ArcArmy Challenge is ongoing. With a Land Fortress, Iron Master, and Grimnar on the hobby horizon, I'm excited to see how my army will grow and evolve in the coming months. And with each new addition and the planned changes being executed, I'll be striving to document the journey and share it with you all.

UPDATE:

Lol, the best plans and they’ve not even passed the test of reaching the tabletop!

So, along comes 23 March… and at the Adepticon reveal Games Workshop announces 10th edition 40K!

So my planned additions to expand the Leagues of Votann may or may not equal 2k by the time the new edition drops. It’s Arcs of Omen level of impact again or it’s not…

But, what was really exciting for me was the announcement of the new Combat Patrol format of gaming. Combat Patrol appears to need just the contents of a Combat Patrol Box…

In the case of the Leagues of Votann the Combat Patrol includes a Kâhl, Hernkyn Pioneers, Hearthkyn Warriors and a unit of Cthonian Beserks.

The first three units I have built and painted as they all came in the original Leagues of Votann Army Box I used as the core to launch the ArcArmy Challenge build.

So to prepare for what I’m hoping is a fun way to play, and preparing for all points contingencies when 10th edition drops, I purchased the Cthonian Berserker kit and will be adding them to the expansion project… So, there’s more to build and paint.
