Disciples of Be'lakor #8

Ready to Roll... Nearly

Hello again, Sam here again with another installment of the ArcArmy Challenge...

Painting a new army can be a bit of a process... My normal painting style is quite muted, grim dark and uses lots of oils and weathering powders. It's been awhile since I've painted something so colourful and it took me a while to work out what I was aiming for as a final result.

So, for instance, I think I've ended up painting the Flamers of Tzeentch at least three times and the Khorne Bloodletters twice! But I feel like I am just about there now and its been a pleasure documenting the process and undertaking the ArcArmy Challenge. I hope you‘ve enjoyed following the journey.

The Photos above are where taken during my game with Legends & Lore’s Jack Wilson's Black Templars. We filmed it the other day, and it’s due to drop on YouTube Friday the 3rd March. The eve of the event! So if you need to chillax while doing some last minute Arc40k preparation then I recommend viewing it.

We played the preview Mission - Paved in Blood and it was a really great game! If you haven't done much prep it’s a great way to learn how an Arc40k mission will play out.

Display Board

So the Display Board is not worth heaps of points but for me it is something I enjoy doing. I feel it adds a lot to the army and helps set the theme. I think it turned out alright in the end and look forward to entering it in Armies on Display later this year. I would be keen to hear any feel back people have over the weekend so I can hopefully improve it for then.

So, what is still left to do before the weekend:

Basing

As you can see in the photos I have not based the army yet. I tend to leave that to the end as want everything to tie in and look the same. All the models are glued down with a small amount of super glue which easily snaps off when I am ready to rebase.

Banners

My attempt at 'free hand' is really a cheaters version. I cannot paint free hand so I am planning on print out on decal sheet the god specific icons from page 2 of the chaos codes. I've made my own decals before but never a banner. The banner will be made out of green stuff so will add an extra element of challenge.

Finishing Touches

Once everything is together I'm going to go over it all and make sure I haven't missed anything like teeth on Flamers, I know there are about 50 I have missed. This is a good time to go over the mission pack again. I had forgotten the theme component of the scoring is actually 13 points (quite high).

Theme

Theme Is not my strong point but I have written an A4 page about Be'lakor and the Shadow Army. I am planning on staining the page to make it look old, Maybe go over the words with red so it looks like its written in blood. We will see...

ArcOpen entries

I’m all in on the full Arc40k and ArcOpen experience this year and I’ve signed up for everything.

I am not expecting to win anything but I am excited for the painting challenge. I am keen to participate so will be entering something in each of the three categories and will talking about my entries and how the event went in a recap article after the event.

Last of all...

Play for Fun. I've spent a lot of time prepping for this event, like a lot of others and I still have a bit to do but were nearly there. The hard work is done and I'm now going to try and enjoy the weekend. I am looking forward to rolling some dice, seeing old friend, and hopefully making some some new ones.
