In an awesome alignment of coincidence we were excited when our newly inducted North American correspondent, and good friend Jonathon Palermo, attended the Warhammer 40,000 championship at Adepticon, and won a major award! Now we actually shared that news on our socials - but the number of requests to see more have been answered in this article celebrating his sucess.
We knew he was going to Adepticon so we asked him to report on his time - then we could share it on social media here in Australia. You might have seen some of the coverage of the first hours on the Wednesday Night and the Games Workshop reveal event.
For those unfamiliar with Adepticon, it's an annual four-day event that takes place in Schaumburg, Illinois, USA.
The convention is a celebration of tabletop gaming, and it features a variety of events, including tournaments, workshops, seminars, Golden Demon and much, much, more. There are literally thousands of people attending all sorts of convention activities
The Adepticon Warhammer 40,000 Championship event drew in hundreds of players from around the world, all vying for the coveted Championship title.
Held in the Adventure Hall, the Championship required players to bring a 2000-point force that they would play four 2 hour and 45 minute games on Thursday from 8.00am in the morning until 10.00pm at night.
All players participating in day 1 of the Championship were eligible to win any of the Thursday night awards.
Importantly the top 16 players then advanced to the finals on Friday morning to play four additional 2 hour and 45 minute games to determine the Champion.
With so many skilled competitors, the competition was fierce, but Jon's Space Wolf army stood out among the field, and was chosen to receive the Best Painted Army Award. This is truly an impressive feat and a testament to the level of skill and dedication that goes into creating a top-tier army.
While the competition was intense, but Jon’s Space Wolf army proved to be a cut above the rest. With excellent painting and attention to detail, the army caught the eye of the judges and earned the Best Painted Army award. This is a significant accomplishment, given the high level of competition and the 255 competitors at the Adepticon, 40K Championship.
Jon had planned to attend the 2022 Adepticon and was planning his army back in August 2021. Several parts were sourced and sent by some Australian mates as he was struggling to find everything to give the army the wolfy feel that he wanted.
Unfortunately he wasn‘t able to secure a ticket - but that gave him more time to work on the army and add even more to it. Witch we suspect may have provided that winning edge.
In addition to the tournaments, Adepticon features a vendor hall where you can purchase miniatures, accessories, and other gaming supplies. Australia’s and Arc40k sponsor Victoria Lamb was there. You can also attend seminars and workshops to learn new painting techniques or pick up tips and tricks for gameplay.
Attending the Warhammer 40,000 championship at Adepticon is an experience like no other. The level of competition is high, but the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a newcomer to the game, there's something for everyone at this convention. Congratulations again to Jonathon for winning the Best Appearance award, and we hope to see you at our event net time you travel back to Australia.
