Jared Clifford Joins ArcOpen 2024’s Judging Panel

A Champion for the Australian Miniature Art scene joins the ArcOpen 2024 Judging Panel.

We're delighted to announce that Miniature Display Painter Jared Clifford, active and popular artisan of the Australian painting scene, has joined the esteemed judging panel for ArcOpen 2024. Jared has made a huge impact both as a painter and community builder within Miniature Display painting over the past few years.

He's the host of the Sydney Painters Guild - providing both the venue and drive behind the regularly convened group - as well as pushing to establish the Guilds Inn weekend for Painting in July.

With a wealth of experience and a trove of awards to his name, including a recent tour of Eurpoean Events as a participant, sees Jared bring an unparalleled eye for the the latest trend, details and artistic prowess to our competition.

People’s Choice at ArcOpen 2023

The accessibility and narrative of his work was displayed at last years ArcOpen where his Flesh Tearers vs Tyranids Piece was voted People's Choice - which we felt was reason enough to invite him to join our judging panel.

Over the ensuing months in 2023 Jared helped bring the Guilds Inn Painting Weekend to life in July. It was a great success bringing together workshops and a painting competition together to the largest city in Australia.

Then he took his painting overseas to participate in workshops where he worked to further refine his skills. He then took the opportunity to participate in what are seen as two of the biggest annual painting events in Europe. SMC (Scale Model Challenge) in the Netherlands and what is seen as the pinnacle for display painters - Monte San Savino, Italy. Getting to these events is a dream for many artists - but to be recognised with medals at both events...

Most recently, at the Crimson Brush in Canberra, Jared proved to be a most prolific entrant with a record number of individual pieces earning him a special award. Many of those entries received Medals in the Masters Category.

Jared's Artistic Journey

Like many of us Jared embarked on his miniature painting odyssey in 1994, when lured into the captivating realms of Warhammer Fantasy and later, Warhammer 40K. But as his interactions with the hobby ebbed and flowed he found himself garnering more enjoyment in the strokes of his brush than the rolls of the dice. It was only in 2020 that Jared really embraced the journey of display painting.
