ArcFest Rule #1 - Play for Fun!

Hey there, fellow tabletop enthusiasts! We're here to talk about one of the cooler aspects of Arcfest – the unwritten Codex Fez Rule #1 which is everyone needs to come prepared to Play for Fun - and have Fun too!

You see, when you gather at Arcfest to enjoy a plethora of awesome games, we want everyone to have a blast while doing it!

Now, let's talk a bit about this Codex Fez. What is it?

Well the original founders of Arc40k had some unwritten expectations of the event they wanted to put on and how the playing group should behave.

They finally did put them down in writing to define the pillars of how the Arc40k event ran for the past 25 years. You can find more about it in the about pages of the Arc40k.com website!

So, as we expand to become Arcfest, we're eager to encourage and infuse every event being held under that umbrella to embrace and enact what has been the essential ingredients in creating Arc40k‘s longevity and success. What that boils down to is that our rule #1 means we want the same fantastic experience to be a part all the games you can play that are being hosted as part of ArcFest.

Sure, winning is great, but at ArcFest it’s going to be about how you play!

That's where some real magic can happen. At ArcFest we are hoping that each game will have its own unique factors for determining the victor. Yet becoming the one true Champion will involve more than just winning all your games.

If you haven’t figured it out yet then it's about engaging with your opponent and ensuring both of you have a blast. That's why we've got the Play for Fun score, which, believe it or not, has been a game-changer for most participants who have joined in a Arc40k event.

Our team is made up of passionate hobbyists, all of who believe that playing a tabletop game is just one piece of a larger challenge when you attend an event - especially ArcFest.

It should be a chance to kick back with friends, enjoy the fruits of your many hours of hobby labor, but without any pressure of high-stakes drama over winning or loosing!

How well you engage with your opponent, making the game fun for both of you is why we have a Play for Fun score across our gaming activities.

It’s not how you win or loose - it’s how you Play the Game!

That very old adage is never truer than at ArcFest.

We have seen at Arc40k events over the years that giving your opponent a say by scoring how much fun they had playing - helps the majority of participants to focus on becoming better participants because they are responsible for their opponent’s enjoyment - how they play.

And enjoyment results in better scores!

So, whether you're celebrating a victory or taking a loss on the chin, remember — tantrums and over-the-top celebrations are not really our recomended event style. At the end of the day, we're all just here to have some fun!

You know, at many gaming events, racking up the most wins might seem like the ultimate goal. But at Arcfest, winning without considering your opponents' enjoyment could lead to a bit of a letdown.

Now, let's talk accolades, trophies, and prizes. While they're pretty darn awesome to shoot for, they're like the bonus for a well rounded weekend of fun.

At the core of tabletop games lies the wild unpredictability of cards and dice. For most of us, the real victory is walking away from the weekend, having played some super enjoyable matches, no matter where we stand in the rankings.

We're rooting for our champions to be legends not only for their winning records but also for their sportsmanship, that’s recognized by their fellow players. These extraordinary individuals get that sweet balance between playing to win and playing for fun.

Playing for Fun, embodying great sportsmanship, taking time with your miniature paint job, and assembling a force Forged for Fun – these are the secret ingredients to becoming a true champion and making sure everyone at Arcfest has an absolutely epic time.

We will be posting articles about all the Codex Fez Rules so be on the lookout for the next installment.

With that let’s all keep it light, keep it fun, and remember, it just might tip the scales in your favor!

Because, in the grand scheme of things, it's all just a game folks!
