For the past 25 years Arc40k has been driven by four core principles.
Put into writing in 2011 they are: Play for Fun, Paint your Army, Be a Good Winner, & Don’t be that Guy…
These Principles - dubbed Codex Fez by those organising the event at that time - have been the backbone of of what has become an Iconic weekend of gaming with painted models against the best of mates - both new found and decades long.
The best part of these principles extend far beyond the Warhammer 40,000 event that spawned them and they can be applied to a range of Table top Miniature games and the Hobby associated with it…
In this series of articles we take a look at some of the events at ArcFest, and how they are getting on board with the Codex Fez, to run events aimed squarely at having fun, with our painted models, against great mates.
Presenting Studio d'Arc - your painting and hobby lounge at ArcFEST 2024!
That’s right. Studio d'Arc will be sitting alongside the ArcOpen painting event and will be the new name for the Hang out and Hobby lounge area from last year’s event.
Best of all it is going to be better organised at ArcFest 2024 as the Melbourne Figure Painters Collective have put their hands up to take it over.
Being the hosts the group hope to and ensure that everything goes to plan and everyone is welcomed to the this important area.
Don’t get us wrong it will still be a place to chill, hangout and relax or catchup with others in our diverse community - best of all it’s Free to everyone attending ArcFest.
But, it’s great that this local community group - which is keen to take every opportunity to building the social aspects of the figure painting hobby in Melbourne will take to the national stage in welcoming everyone to ArcFest2024.
The Melbourne Figure Painters Collective is a group that meets monthly at the Kathleen Symes Library in Carlton, Melbourne. Anyone is welcome to come along, bring any tools you'll need to paint and become of the growing community at the Melbourne Figure Painters Collective.
You can find them on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mfp.collective/
It’s important that the local community be involved in ArcFest by hosting the new Studio d’Arc.
So just like at a regular Melbourne Figure Painter’s Collective meeting Studio d’Arc is going to be a great way to spend some time hanging out, chatting about and doing some hobby.
If this sounds like your jam then please feel welcome to bring along some hobby supplies to spend the weekend painting as well as possibly chatting with some of the best display painters & sculptors in Australia.
Our yet to be announced ArcOpen judges Panel are looking forward to holding mini panel sessions with those interested in finding out what they feel is important in furthering miniature display painting here in Australia. Also, if you are keen to learn some new tricks there are demonstrations planned to be held or maybe events to take part in like the speed painting challenge…
Even if you are Not planning on entering the ArcOpen - then that's ok too! Everyone is welcome to come by and check out some of the skills on display at Melbourne's premier painting competition and join in the Studio d’Arc.
Also, if you are participating in ArcFest as a player and your gaming models suffer a real injury - don’t stress - we'll have a repair station so you can have all your models in tip top shape for your next game.
The area will be a relaxed and chill space that the Melbourne Figure Painters Collective hope that by hosting they can meet and connect with as many people who love painting models are much as they do.
So, when they become available grab a Ticket to ArcFest and if you’re not playing in a Tournament make plans to include some time hanging out at Studio d’Arc. Keep an eye out for more announcements about Studio d’Arc as we get closer to the event - the team have only just began exploring the many options they have for running activities in the space.
