Club Focus - Horsham, West Sussex

The Horsham Wargaming Club (or H.W.C.) is a young club, having only been founded in February this year. Its home is in the town of Horsham, West Sussex close to the English south coast.

Our club meets on alternative Sunday evenings at the Roffey Club in Horsham. It currently consists of around fifty members and is lead and organised by an executive made up of seven of the club’s members.

The story of the H.W.C.’s orgin is not too disimilair to many gaming clubs out there; a group of local Middle Earth Stratergy Battle Game players in Horsham got together to organise a slow grow campaign. Naturally they needed a place locally to play their games with enough space, gaming tables, terrain and most importantly a fully stocked bar with reasonably priced drinks.

It was our Club Treasurer Neil who suggested the Roffey Club; a local workers club in North Horsham of which he was a member of, as a potential place to host our gaming club. It had a couple of function rooms with sufficient space to accommodate our group. We also decided to reach out to other local gaming groups in and around Horsham to see if they would like to join us, many of which have come on board. Horsham is also the home of the Creative Assembly head office, with their work on the Warhammer Total War series it comes as no surprise that there are some hobbyists and gamers in their ranks who also attend our club regularly.

Games wise, we are an independent gaming club that encourages and fosters multi system gaming, but the most popular gaming systems that are played at the club are Warhammer 40,000, Middle Earth Stratergy Battle Games and Gaslands. The latter of which has caught on very quickly with many of our new members jumping on board to build a race team of their own. We also can accommodate players who are interested in board games, card games and roleplay games

As for the future of the club, we are hoping to potentially run some local events such as tournaments and campagns. But the H.W.C. is still in its infancy, so we need to learn to crawl before we can run, but it doesn’t hurt to be optomistic. Our focus is on equal parts recruitment and retention, making sure that we provided a welcoming environment to any new comers and keeping our current members engaged and involved in the club.

For those who would like to find out more about the H.W.C. or better yet come along to one of our club nights, you can find more information on our Facebook page:
